Domestic development In Austria, the operative insurance companies, UNIQA Personenversicherung, UNIQA Sachversicherung, Raiffeisen Versicherung, Salzburger Landes-Versicherung and Call Direct together with the 50% subsidiary MLP Österreich, achieved an increase in premiums written of 4.1% to EUR 2,467.53. The premium growth was carried by the positive development in all lines: life assurance (including MLP) +2.8% to EUR 1,174.01 million, property and casualty insurance +6.5% to EUR 695.33 million and health insurance +3.8% to EUR 598.19 million.
Through the continued consistent implementation of the "cost savings programme", the UNIQA Group succeeded in separating the cost development from the premium development domestically. Whilst the earned premiums (excluding single premiums) increased by 5.8% in 2001, simultaneously costs fell by 4.2%.
Development abroad The companies belonging to the UNIQA Group in Poland, the Czech Republic, the Slovak Republic, Croatia, Italy and Switzerland achieved a premium volume written in direct business of EUR 261.12 million (+53.2%) in 2001. The largest portion thereof was accounted for by the property and casualty line with EUR 177.01 million (+74.4%), followed by the health insurance with EUR 66.67 million (+12.7%) and life assurance with EUR 17.43 million (+77.3%). The foreign companies share of the Group premium volume increased by 6.9% to 9.9% in the past year.
